Gold, Oil, the S&P 500 and Stocks on Crypto Exchanges: How It Works

In 2026 the biggest crypto exchanges became some of the busiest places to trade gold, oil and US stocks. These perpetuals on stocks and commodities trade around the clock, settle in stablecoins and carry real order books.

What stock and commodity perpetuals are

A stock or commodity perpetual is a futures contract without expiry that tracks a traditional asset: gold (XAU), silver (XAG), copper, WTI and Brent crude, natural gas, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, or individual stocks like NVIDIA, Tesla and Apple. You never own the underlying — you trade its price with stablecoin margin, exactly like a crypto perpetual.

Where the price comes from

Exchanges anchor these contracts to an index of the real market (COMEX futures, spot gold, stock prices) through licensed price feeds and oracles, and funding payments keep the perpetual close to that index. When the underlying market is closed — at weekends or overnight for stocks — the perp keeps trading on its own supply and demand, and gaps against the index can open.

Why the order book is fragmented

The same instrument is called differently on each exchange — the S&P 500 is SP500, US500 or SPX500; Brent is BZ, UKOIL or BRENTOIL — and contract sizes differ. Liquidity is split across Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, Gate, MEXC, Hyperliquid, Lighter, Aster, Extended and others. Looking at one of them shows a small part of the market.

What changes when you aggregate

  • Gold depth within ±0.5% of price summed across exchanges is several times the depth of any single venue.
  • Walls and liquidity gaps become visible at the level of the whole crypto-traded market.
  • Weekend moves, when COMEX and Wall Street are closed, can be watched in one order book.

What it does not replace

Crypto-exchange perps are not the COMEX order book; professional real-time CME data requires a paid licence. But for a trader working with crypto-native tools, the aggregated book of these perps is the deepest freely available view of these markets.

AggPro aggregates gold, silver, copper, oil, gas, the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and leading stocks across every exchange that lists them, in a separate Stocks section of the terminal — with both perpetual and tokenized spot order books.
